2023-02-10

The European project called “Accelerate Positive Clean Energy Districts” (ASCEND) has officially started.

The project, which the Porto Energy Agency integrates as a partner, aims to accelerate the implementation of Positive Clean Energy Districts (PCED) to make cities more sustainable, inclusive and carbon neutral. For this mission, large-scale demonstrators will be developed within the scope of the project in the eight partner cities of the program (including Porto).

Specifically, in the Municipality of Porto, ASCEND will create a cost-effective PCED for testing, validating and prototyping ideas.

The project kick-off session took place in Lyon, France, on the 8th and 9th of February and had the participation of AdEPorto and other local partners: the Serralves Foundation, the Municipal Company Águas e Energia do Porto and the Porto Digital Association. The Vice-President of Porto City Council, Filipe Araújo, was also present at the event.

The ASCEND project has a duration of 5 years and a total budget of 25 million euros.
